Arsenal line-up v Crystal Palace: Gunners trio miss out, but Eagles have bigger problems

first_imgThe start of the new Premier League season has been slightly overshadowed by Tony Pulis’ departure from Crystal Palace, but for Arsenal it is just another confidence boost as the Gunners head into the campaign full of vigour.Arsene Wenger’s men added the Community Shield to their FA Cup success from last season, with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Man City to send out the message that this side must be taken seriously in the title race. The Gunners have added significant quality to their ranks, with their only notable departure being Bacary Sagna to Man City, and Wenger has hinted that his summer of spending isn’t about to stop.“Will I still do something? I don’t rule it out,” he mischievously commented, when posed with the question.Prior to Pulis’ surprise departure, Crystal Palace had looked like building on their solid foundations – even if that wasn’t necessarily reflected in the transfer market. The Eagles’ lack of additional firepower could be an issue, but without a strong leader at the helm, that is the least of their problems right now.Team newsArsenalFor the first time in a long time, Wenger has an almost entirely fit squad to choose from, however there remain some players who are not quite ready for the weekend. The World Cup winning trio of Per Mertesacker, Mesut Ozil and Lukas Podolski have only just returned to action following their summer of success, while Theo Walcott is a little way off playing. New goalkeeper David Ospina is also a doubt, meaning Wojciech Szczesny will start in goal.Crystal PalaceThe biggest problem facing Palace this weekend is the aforementioned loss of their manager, but beyond that there are few personnel issues. Defender Adrian Mariappa is arguably the biggest absentee with a rib injury, while Damien Delaney and Jerome Thomas are also doubts.Possible Arsenal line-up: 1 Arsenal v Crystal Palace is live on talkSPORT from 5pm on Saturday 16 August. What do you think the score will be?
