PDF Box Score BROOKINGS, S.D. – The South Dakota State Jackrabbits handed the Drake University women’s soccer team its first loss of the 2016 season by a score of 3-0 on Sunday, Sept. 18 afternoon at Fishback Soccer Park. Drake dropped to 7-1-1 with the road loss while South Dakota State improved to 5-4-1 with the home win. The Bulldogs’ undefeated eight-game start to the season came to an end with the shutout. The impressive start is one of the best in Missouri Valley Conference history with only two other teams in the league having better starts to a season.”Today’s game will certainly provide opportunity for reflection and growth,” said head coach Lindsey Horner. “We really struggled in the first half to impose our style on the game. As a group we talk about learning from our mistakes and unfortunately we weren’t sharp in a lot of areas and this was one of them. The second half we had momentum and control of the ball for long periods, but just couldn’t find that elusive first goal. The third goal we had left ourselves exposed due to my decision to push numbers forward. We saw a response from the team in the second half but it is crucial how we respond in the next few days, as this group has not yet lost, nor have we conceded that many goals. As a staff we look forward to using this experience to accelerate our growth.”The Jackrabbits jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals in the first 33 minutes of the first half. The Bulldogs and the Jackrabbits each had four shots in the period, but SDSU had goals from Nicole Hatcher (22:52) and Carina McLennan (32:23) to lead to 2-0 at halftime. Drake will look to bounce back when it plays at UMKC Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs return the Cownie Soccer Complex Sept. 25 to host Evansville in their conference opener. Print Friendly Version Previewlast_img read more
