Green: Asiata the right man for the job

first_imgAsiata emerged as an NRL superstar – and made Green look like a genius – after filling in for the injured Thurston in North Quensland’s 28-22 loss to St George Illawarra.Green’s injury-ravaged club trailed 28-4 at the break before Asiata put the Cowboys on his broad shoulders and set Twitter alight. The big fella set up two tries and pulled out a kicking game any top half-back would be proud of to almost orchestrate an unlikely win over the in-form Dragons.“He did a really good job there in the halves,” Green said of his big back-rower.“… Once we worked out what game we could play to be effective I thought John would be able to execute that well given the skillset that he’s got, and I thought he did that tonight.“For him that was a learning curve as well, playing in the halves at NRL level, it’s a big ask when you’ve come from playing lock most of your NRL career.“I’m really pleased with the effort and the job he did for us tonight.”Green conceded not even Thurston ‘would have made much difference in that first half’ as the ladder-leading Dragons ran riot. But Green remains steadfast in his belief the Cowboys can come out the other side of their injury crisis and be genuine finals contenders come September.“Very confident, we’ll be right,” he said.“We’re just having a rough period at the moment.“Teams go through it, you don’t know when it’s going to be but ours is now.”last_img read more

The signing of Cavani by Atlético is a matter of hours

first_imgCavani has not passed the medical examination even with Atlético de Madrid, neither in the capital of Spain nor in Paris, as these sources close to Cavani have confirmed to AS. “But you can be sure that there will be no problem with Edinson’s medical test, because he is in perfect condition after recovering from the small muscle discomfort he had a few weeks ago,” the striker’s environment has been explained to this newspaper. Some small muscular discomforts that served as an excuse for Cavani not to risk, from the postponed game against Monaco, and not be summoned in the following PSG games with a view to his possible signing for Atlético. The contract that the agent and brother of Edinson Cavani is negotiating (on February 14 will turn 33) with the club rojiblanco would be for the rest of the season and maybe two more, or two more one, as it has revealed to AS the environment of the international striker charrúa.The arrival of Cavani at Atlético de Madrid would fulfill Simeone’s aspirations that not only wants the Uruguayan striker for years, but in the absence of goals from Atlético this season, his proven goal scoring nose (198 goals in 293 official matches with PSG) will make a qualitative leap to the rojiblanco team (22 league goals in 21 games). Parallel to the imminent hiring of Cavani by Atlético de Madrid, the rojiblanco club continues to move in team outings, and the most likely is Lemar’s, with a view to square the fair play financial with LaLiga If the ‘Cavani operation’ is closed on Monday, Atlético de Madrid could announce it on Tuesday or Wednesday, once it has passed the relevant medical tests. And it is not disposable, if there is no last minute setback, which could be among those called for the Saturday derby against Real Madrid, at the Bernabéu (4:00 p.m.).center_img The signing of Edinson Cavani by Atlético de Madrid is a matter of hours. AS has been able to speak with the player’s environment and has confirmed that this Monday “everything will be decided”. The brother and agent of the soccer player is in Madrid, as he has also revealed to this newspaper the closest environment of the Uruguayan, to negotiate the conditions of the contract with the club rojiblanco. This means that Atlético Madrid would have already reached an agreement with the PSG to free him. The last offer was 15 million more in three in variables, as L’Equipe said.last_img read more
